Who Is The Real JV Team?

IMG_0543

President Obama Speaking to DHS Employees.

On 7 January, 2014 President Obama made his now infamous and grossly inaccurate remark about the Islamic terrorist organization ISIS:

The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant,

The Presidents JV team continues not only to expand its territory, recruiting, funding and brutality but also the length of its deadly reach. They blew up a Russian Airliner killing 244 people and just over a month later murdered 129 people in Paris. The President stated the day before the attack that his strategy had them contained. The problem here is two fold. First, no foreign policy expert from either party knows what President Obamas strategy is. Second, whatever the strategy is doing, it certainly isn’t containing ISIS.

Perhaps the Presidents foreign policy advisors are really the JV Team. In this case, to take from the President, they may be wearing Lakers uniforms, but that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant!

Does the President have his JV team scouring the internet for the reason ISIS attacked Paris. Im sure that if they scrub YouTube long enough the State Department can find the video responsible. If Obama can catch the disgusting video’s maker, and also put them in jail, maybe ISIS will live and let live…but of course they won’t!

Why Obama’s Policies Nearly Made ISIS Much Stronger

Twin Towers on 9-11

Twin Towers on 9-11

Much as been said about the Obama administration’s Middle Eastern foreign policy challenges. Each day brings new discussions of the brutal terrorist organization ISIS, the U.S. air campaign to destroy them, their assault on Baghdad and the town of Kobani and the ISIS induced instability across Syria and Iraq. What hasn’t been discussed is how much worse things might have been if the Obama administration’s Middle Eastern policy had played out as he and his faithful had intended.

Failed nation states are the greatest threat to Middle East stability. The impact that instability has on international oil markets sends shivers through the global economy. Not long ago, the Obama administration, then Secretary Clinton, and progressives across the U.S., were enamored with the Arab Spring. In an effort to advance that movement, President Obama undermined the Egyptian government of President Hosni Mubarak, enabling it to fall under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammad Morsi. The Muslim brotherhood, a slightly less dark and evil cousin to Al Qaeda and ISIS, and Morsi granted themselves ever more dictatorial powers rapidly losing popularity. Morsi’s government, contrary to President Obama’s desires, did not last long, and the Egyptian military quickly retook control of Egypt, ousting the Muslim brotherhood from Egypt and declaring it illegal.

America needs to ask how much more instability would exist in the Middle East right now had President Obama and Hillary Clinton’s Egyptian policy carried through? Would Israel be facing a deadly enemy there instead of a peaceful neighbor? Would ISIS have spread beyond Iraq and Syrian and gained a foothold or perhaps more than a foothold in Egypt? Once in Egypt, it would be an easy transition into Libya, and from there?

At this point, ISIS’s stated purpose of creating a global caliphate would appear well on its way. Certainly from a recruiting standpoint, ISIS’s reach to motivate and recruit future terrorists from around the world would magnify the larger their territory. We’ve recently seen ISIS influenced evil in Canada and New York City and most undoubtedly will see more. Lets be thankful that the Obama/Clinton Middle East vision failed, or we would all be facing a much greater and darker threat from ISIS.

UPDATE:

ISIS striving to make gains in Northern Africa.“In its war to create a caliphate across Syria and Iraq, the Islamic State is opening a front in North Africa, where affiliated militants are wreaking havoc in eastern Libya and Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula”

The President’s March Madness Strategy

President Obama is well known for his love of filling out his “March Madness” brackets. His understanding of college basketball may in fact be outstanding, but that doesn’t mean he knows anything about military operations. The President’s simplistic comprehension of the United States military is evidenced by his continued use of sports metaphors in describing all things military. Much as been made recently about the president’s January 2014 description of ISIL as a JV team. He described them saying just because you wear Kobe Bryant’s jersey doesn’t make you Kobe Bryant. He told NBC’s Chuck Todd that his pending strategy would be characterized by going on offense. Sounds like a comment John Madden might make while broadcasting an NFL Game. He diminishes the seriousness of the force of arms and instills no confidence among our troops.

In an Interview with NPR’s Steve Inskeep, President Obama stated

“When it comes to foreign policy, that oftentimes the United States has made mistakes not by showing too much restraint but by underestimating how challenging the environment is out there, not thinking through consequences, that there is a lot of blocking and tackling to foreign policy, to change sports metaphors, or, if you want to stick to baseball, that a lot of what you want to do is to advance the ball on human rights, advance the ball on national security, advance the ball on energy independence, to put the ball in play.”

White House staff is equally prone to throw in the sports cliches. In the President’s Wednesday night ISIL strategy speech Obama was light on specifics. When questioned, an unnamed staff member mentioned they didn’t want to say too much because they didn’t want to telegraph America’s punches.

What makes the situation even more disturbing is the pattern that President Obama shows by ignoring the military advice of the true military experts. Obama ignored advice on leaving troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to maintain the long-term stability of those countries. He overruled his military commanders and provided only a fraction of the troops they requested for the surge in Afghanistan. He is once again ignoring them as they advise using ground troops in addition to airstrikes to destroy ISIL. If the president were military genius I would have no problem with this pattern but to steal from the president’s own metaphor; just because you wear a jersey that says Commander in Chief on it doesn’t make you Dwight D. Eisenhower.
